COOL SCHOOLS TREE PLANTING
FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2020
Arturo Salazar Elementary
1120 S. Ravinia Dr.
Dallas, TX 75211

Morning Session 7:30 AM - noon
Afternoon Session 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

USGBC Texas is partnering with the Texas Trees Foundation for a Cool Schools volunteer day at Dallas ISD's Arturo Salazar Elementary (1120 S. Ravinia Dr.) on Thursday, March 5th.

The Texas Trees Foundation serves as a catalyst in creating a new green legacy for North Texas through transformational, research-based plans that educate and mobilize the public to activate the social, economic, environmental, and health benefits that trees and urban forestry provide.

The Cool Schools - Texas Trees planting day is an opportunity to learn proper tree planting techniques for future volunteer opportunities or for use in your personal life.

All volunteers will need to complete the Dallas ISD background check. This is required to work with students and ensure safety and compliance with Dallas ISD policies. Volunteers should register online. Select "Salazar, Arturo" as the school and enter the correct date for the volunteer event.

Additionally, please fill out a Texas Trees Foundation Waiver Release Form. This can be signed and brought to the event (a limited number will be available onsite).

Volunteer Day Agenda

First Session 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Second Session 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Morning shift volunteers should arrive around 7:30 AM for some breakfast and a tree planting demonstration. Students usually start coming out around 8:30 AM for 45 minutes and then switch out with other grades throughout the day. Older students will help plant trees with volunteers and younger students will help to mulch the trees after they are planted.

Texas Trees Foundation will provide all of the gloves, tools, water, and supplies for the event. Volunteers should wear long pants and boots/tennis shoes that they do not mind getting dirty.

Lunch will be served to the second group at 11 AM followed by a quick tree planting demonstration. Once the 1st group is done at 11:30 AM, we will serve lunch to them and they can head back to the office.

We are waiting to hear back from the Cool School Manager on the exact student schedule. It’s possible that the times move a little to accommodate the students' schedule
