Outdoor time in schools is known to benefit students’ mental and physical health and wellbeing in multiple ways but not all schools have the resources to allow for outdoor time. Some facilities, especially Title 1 schools around the city do not have outdoor furniture to help facilitate class instruction or outdoor dining.

We are calling on our community and corporate partners to assist with this effort. Whether this is monetary or an in-kind volunteer donation, we would be ever so grateful to have your support.

The Central Regional Council of USGBC-Texas hosts Green Coffee Hours each quarter, open to the public. This FREE event offers the opportunity to meet and network with people in green careers: architecture, engineering, sustainability, environmental governance professions, and more. For 2026, USGBC Texas will hold simultaneous gatherings in four of the Chapter's regions connected via video feed to create one BIG Texas event!

In-person gatherings are being planned for the following locations:

Austin
Dallas
Houston
San Antonio

Keynote:

Betsy del Monte, FAIA
Principal Consultant, Cameron MacAllister
Lecturer, Clemson School of Architecture; Lyle School of Engineering, SMU

Betsy del Monte, FAIA, is an architect with 30 years of experience in high-performance architecture and has expertise in resilience and environmentally responsive design.

As a consultant with the Cameron MacAllister Group (CMG), she helps firms achieve environmentally responsive planning and design.

Betsy has taught at the Clemson University School of Architecture, Boston Architectural College, and at SMU’s School of Engineering, where she helped create the Sustainability and Development degree program. She has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at Arlington, Rice University, the University of Virginia, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M. Betsy has been named a Fellow by the AIA and as a Senior Fellow by the Design Futures Council. She is involved at national, state, and local levels with the AIA, USGBC, and other groups focused on sustainable design and construction. She was the 2021 Chair of the national AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE), which led the transformation of the Institute’s focus on sustainable design to include the Framework for Design Excellence.

She has served on the national AIA Strategic Council, the COTE Leadership Group (Chair, 2021), and the Equity and Future of Architecture Board Committee.

Betsy is currently working with the Appalachian Design Alliance at Mountain True to provide pro bono planning for rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Helene's devastation of the region in 2024.

Betsy received her Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Virginia and her Master of Architecture from Rice University. Her experience includes work at architecture firms in Atlanta and Houston, as well as with Philip Johnson and John Burgee in New York. She lives in Asheville, NC, with her husband, family, and three large dogs.
