About the Event

Join us for a tour of Austin's newest park: Waterloo Park. The tour will highlight the unique and innovative features of this 10.5 acre park and amphitheater as well as the partnership between the City of Austin and the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy.

Speakers:

John Rigdon is the Director of Planning and Design at Waterloo Greenway. In that capacity he leads planning and capital projects, weaving together the efforts of the project managers, the City of Austin, and the design team. With roots in sustainable planning and community engagement, he has provided forward-looking solutions to a vast array of project management, design, and programming challenges across his career. John earned an M.S. in community and regional planning from The University of Texas at Austin.

Lisa Storer is a Project Manager at the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department primarily working on the Waterloo Greenway projects, which aim to transform 35 acres of downtown Austin with new public parks, accessible trails, and a restored Waller Creek to connect people to nature in the center of the city. With a background in architecture and sustainability, Lisa enjoys working on complex projects with strong ecological goals that bridge architecture and landscape architecture, and she has over 15 years of experience working in the built environment. Previously, Lisa worked at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center developing the SITES v2 Rating System for sustainable land design and development, now administered internationally by GBCI. Lisa also serves as the Chair of the LEED Sustainable Sites Technical Advisory Group and is the past Chair of the US Green Building Council’s Central Texas Region.

Meeting place: We'll gather at Meredith Heritage Tree Deck #8 on this map (off of Trinity Street).

Parking: Free 2-hour parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage across the street at the corner of 12th and Trinity. Paid street parking is also available. Waterloo park has bike racks, a metrobike docking station, and there are several bus routes that go up Trinity St. from the downtown area.
